Kinda, with its lakes, forests, hills and valleys, is located where the great plains of Östergötland meet the highlands of Småland. People realized already 5 000 that this was a good place to settle. Traces of the olden days are visible in grave fields, old fortresses, cultivations and meadows.. Nature and culture are the hallmarks of Kinda. The hiking trail Östgötaleden winds through deep forests with plenty of berries and mushrooms, wildlife, past natural and cultural landmarks. Here you find one of the largest cave systems in Sweden (Trollegater), the Kinda Canal, the first Emigration Office (for people emigrating the the US in the 19th Century) nature reserves and old agricultural landscapes, a 13th Century wooden church in Tidersrum and king Karl XI:s old riding path past the Gates of Hell and the 18th Century farmstead Smedstorp. Kinda offers plenty of outdoor activities year round, e.g. swimming, fishing and boating in Summer and skiing and long distance skating in Winter. Kinda has something to offer everyone.
